I have a trend going here now. I did another forever SEO friendly list blog post. But this isn’t going to be a “Best Side Hustle Ideas” blog post again. (I am making it my mission to not provide the SEO cash machine of Best this or that blog post.) The Active Entrepreneur blog is about bringing you real actionable steps to build ANYTHING you want. This isn’t a get rich quick website. I am here to educate you on my life lessons of building multiple side hustles and how you can do it better than me because I made the mistakes.

So, let’s get right to it now, shall we?

Table of Content:

1. Researching for ideas, problems, solutions without taking action.

2. Thinking that some Ad guru will provide a swipe file that makes you $35k in 3 days.

3. Not realizing your efforts make up your results

4. Stressing over what you think you need to post on social media

5. Guessing what to do next in your business

6. Stop making excuses

7. You’re not challenging yourself to become a better version of you

Constant Research

The first struggle that stops a side hustler from business success is looking for perfect. If you spending countless days, hours, or even months researching what the best side hustle to start is, then you are further delaying your success.

I’d like to share a cautionary tale. A while ago I was speaking to someone who wants to escape the rat race. He spoke very passionately about getting his family financial freedom and having the ability to spend more time with them. However, the situation was, he had been researching the perfect business to start for the past year. I don’t know about you, but that is a ton of research to take place for a year on what you want to do for a side hustle.

I want you to think like this, where would his life be if he at least started on the journey? How much would he have learned by just taking action?

In this situation, the fear of failing(which he mentioned he was afraid of) was more important than the passion to change the destiny of his family’s future forever. Everything you want is on the other side of fear- This quote is so true. So, as you spend more time in “research” mode, think to yourself, what more is there to learn? Can I learn more by actually taking action?

Thinking that some Ad by a Guru that provides a swipe file will make you rich

I know you all have started seeing ads everywhere that say “Swipe my file for $7 and it will make you $3K in two days after using it.”

The reason these types of ads have become so popular now is that this pandemic has forced everybody home and the race to build an online business has become even more competitive. Now, let me say this, I am not saying that these swipes cannot provide the type of financial gain that you are looking for. I just want you to be open and realistic with your goals and ambitions.

These swipes will work better if you have a large audience or email list to pitch to. You can still use them even with no following, but you have to understand the methods and strategies to grow an audience to achieve the biggest benefit from these swipe files.

So if you are starting with no audience then realistically you cannot make the promised revenue in a short time span by said Guru. A side hustle is hard work and business success comes in from the hard work that you decide to put in day in and day out.

The last thing I want to mention with this is that even with a swipe file, you still want to remain you. Sometimes that can get lost if you are trying to connect with an audience by someone else’s words that aren’t your own.

Not realizing your efforts make up your results

Every single day in your side hustle journey is a building block for the next. What this means is to achieve business success one has to be ready to put in the necessary work as mentioned and create good habits.

No matter how small the step towards your goals, set out an intention to do something to take the next step. By doing this, in no time you will see your goals right in front of you. I like to think of everyday tasks completed in the business as planting a seed. You are looking to the future waiting and ready for everything to come to harvest. For example, writing a blog post, or doing a podcast episode is like planting a seed. You plant it(post the content) then water it(share it) then know at some point it will harvest a return. That may be a newsletter sign up, purchase of a service or product, and overall further brand awareness.

We just have to keep planting. Those efforts will make up the biggest portion of your results.

(If you’re looking to plan and take action on your efforts, I highly suggest this 13-week self journal to achieve it.)

Stressing over what you think you need to post on social media

This is a huge problem that is common among online side hustlers. I understand that you have to do whatever you need to do to get your business in front of your audience. The thing is, I don’t want you to do it at the cost of your happiness.

Your mental health and happiness are worth way more than trying to post a quote a day, a reel a day, share a behind the scene story a day, and then do a 10 minute live. Too much pressure is being put on to provide consistent value. The right thing to do here is just being honest with yourself on the expectation of what you can achieve with social media right now.

Like me, as I have explained before, I started only doing my podcast, then posting quotes on my Facebook and Instagram pages. I still mainly post quotes but throw in the occasional carousel or video. This just makes me happy, I have experimented with reels but truth be told, anything to do with the video I am not a fan of. I really do not enjoy editing videos so I steer clear. I don’t like setting up my ring light or shifting around my desk either to get room to record a video.

So, I just accepted my path for what it is. I enjoy the written word of communication. Now I am a businessman and understand that studies show that video content is king and I am sure I will move more into that realm, but for now I truly enjoy engaging this way.

That is the point here. Create and engage your content the way that makes you happy. Harness the method and don’t back down from it!

Stop making excuses, you don't want it.

If any of the following statements pop in your mind or come out of your mouth daily, then either shift your mindset to be open to change or stop pretending you want a side hustle.

“I don’t have time.”

“I can’t afford it.”

“Nobody is buying anything.”

“Waiting for the perfect time to launch.”

“I’m not an expert.”

“What if I fail.”

…….These are just a few, I could go on. Follow the shift here if you actually want a true change in your life.

  • How can you create time? (No not physically create it) But even if it is 30 mins or hell 10 mins a day working on your side hustle, you still didn’t wait to work on your future by taking action.
  • How can you afford it? Be creative in your thinking, our minds are mighty, and if you challenge them daily, a solution will come to you. The answer for additional money may be in your hand or sitting in your house.
  • The world is full of problems. Find one you can solve and a Mack truck of money will be backing up to your house.
  • You’ll wait forever. The best time to start was years ago. The next best time is now. Think about it. Many people missed out on buying Amazon or Facebook stock when they were cheap. That still ain’t stopping people from buying it now. Opportunity is always there.
  • Is anybody really an expert now? Everybody is online saying do this and do that anyway. People will find and connect with what resonates with them. JUST BE YOU.
  • What happens if you don’t even try? Stay stuck at the job you hate, unable to live the life you want, and unhappy every day because you continue to be afraid. I think you’ll learn more about yourself and running a side hustle if you actually take action and learn. Failing is apart of business, use it as a learning lesson to continuously get better.

Don’t forget to purchase the Time-On-The-Go Course if you need help creating habits to achieve business success. The course is designed to aid busy entrepreneurs and side hustlers create more balance so that they can have a consistent focus on what matters most in their business & life.

You’re not challenging yourself to become a better version of you

The things I have been through and sacrifices that I have made have not all been the best decisions. Over these past 4 years of becoming an entrepreneur, I have learned so much that I wish I knew when I started. If I was the Fabe today back years ago then I probably could have avoided:

  • Not putting such a strain on my marriage
  • Saved some relationships
  • Be a better son/grandson

Here is what I am saying. I have challenged myself a lot. From studying things on YouTube, Books, Blogs, going to real estate meetings, and downright forcing myself to network with other side hustlers. The thing is, doing this much challenging can come at a cost. So, yes I want you to push yourself further to get better. Just don’t forget those most important on the way. It has taken me this long to now understand. You can have balance. That is the challenge.

I understand now

I can’t speak for other bloggers out there, but after writing this blog post I am starting to get it. I am doing my best to provide the best content possible to aid someone to achieve their dreams.

The thing is, I get now that I am not speaking to you, the reader, but talking to the younger blog writer of this post whose ambition outweighed a lot of things. Every post is to let the younger Fabe know the way and let the Fabe of today know he can still take the opportunity to do better.

Hopefully, you made it this far and can see the biggest lessons out of this post. There is so much out there that will distract you and make you think it is important. Your happiness and how you feel is best to go about growing your side hustle to business success is what is most important than what any Guru can try to sell you.

Every side hustler’s journey is unique to them.
