As of late I have seen and spoken to people who are struggling to find time, passion, and focus to grow their side hustle. I would like us to speak on the latter of the things that people are struggling with.
We know that everybody wants to have a successful side hustle business. The thing is, are you willing to do what it takes to get there. This is not some easy road to riches. For the success of your side hustle, it will take lots of focus.
In today’s blog post, I want to discuss the importance of focus. What area of the brain controls focus, why we lose focus, and methods that you can use to increase your focus.
By understanding all the levels of focus, you can then work to develop the right skillsets that make your business success a much smoother ride.
I won’t get too scientific here as that is not the main point. I want you to just understand the functions that your brain controls so that you know what you need to do next.
As I have said before, being cognitively aware is a great skill to have to see the best results of running any side hustle. Your cognitive abilities can take any side hustle you decide to start and turn it into a success. Your brain is powerful and the more you decide to understand it, the better you can harness the power to achieve the business success of your dreams.
Your brain includes the parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe as well as the frontal lobe. We will bring our attention to the frontal lobe of the brain.
The frontal lobe is the area of the brain responsible for:
The frontal lobe takes up a third of your brain and is essential for all the high-level thinking that you have to do. From the purchase of a home, a car, or what investments you want to do, your frontal lobe is what is working to make those choices happen.
Therefore, the decision’s that you have to make every day on your side hustle is going to be based around the cognitive abilities of your frontal lobe. (I don’t know about you, but I love this brain stuff.
Because I have a true growth mindset and knowing that I can increase the brainpower to achieve more means that I can consistently get better which in turn means I can consistently increase revenue in my businesses.)
Ok, we know what area that we have to improve to help our focus, but why do I lose focus in the first place?
Very good question, with limited time to work on a side hustle, the intent that you have to have daily is essential if you want to leave that corporate plantation.
Here are a few reasons that we lose focus on our side hustle success:
While I listed bad habits last on the list, I believe it holds all the cards when it comes to the reason why we don’t have the focus needed for your side job.
Bad habits can be things like poor eating, poor sleep patterns, and downright making the most uneducated decisions with your time daily.
Meaning, are you making the most out of the time you do have for your side job? Have you really educated yourself on how you will succeed at your side job or are you guessing every day what you need to be doing?
Work to create good habits and routines for yourself daily and you will find the opportunity of growth with your side job easier than once imagined. Quick tip, if you are looking for something to further aid you in getting the proper focus as well as having daily routines mapped out for you, then I suggest the Time-On-The-Go Course. In it, you will learn daily affirmations, habits that increase your skillset and keep a healthy balance between your side job and family.
Here are some other pointers in how you can improve your frontal lobe power which in turn enhances your focus.
According to Sandra Bond Chapman Ph.D there are methods that you can apply for increased cognitive abilities for the frontal lobe.
Avoid autopilot - Your brain basically is bored when it is on autopilot. For true brain health, have a thoughtful, deep thinking process to improve.
Decrease information overload - This one can be very easy for a side hustler to struggle with. Especially one who falls under the list of Googling “What is the best side hustle.” Giving yourself too much information can block or slow the process down of your decision-making skills. Thus, you become overwhelmed and stuck in all the data that needs to be processed by your brain. It is key that you remove things from the frontal lobe that are not important.
Strategic memory - Something that I found very interesting about this is that your frontal lob can be harmed by trying to remember too many details. It will reduce the efficiency of the frontal lob thinking. Journaling is a great habit to have to release whatever it is that you feel.
It will help you craft a plan you understand and are aligned with in your business.
It does not matter what vehicle you decide to use to increase your cognitive superpowers. It can be listening to podcasts, reading books, meditating, or watching more informative content. For a truly successful side hustle, being able to think on the fly and pivot when needed can only occur if you have aligned your mind in a higher more efficient state of thinking.
Increase your brain function to increase your revenue.
